The firm handles legal matters in the areas of
private and public international law with an emphasis on judicial
assistance in transnational litigation, international child custody
disputes, international child support enforcement, international
prisoner transfer, diplomatic immunity issues, as well as employment
laws related to employment by diplomatic missions.
As legal counsel to the Brazilian Embassy in Washington, D.C. since
1996, Laurinda Hicks advises the Consular Sector of the Brazilian
Embassy, and Consulates General of Brazil throughout the United
States, regarding legal matters affecting Brazilian nationals in
various areas, such as family law, criminal law, and immigration
law. Laurinda Hicks was awarded the Medal of the Order of Rio Branco
by the Government of Brazil for outstanding legal services rendered
to the Government of Brazil.
The firm’s practice in the area of intellectual property
concentrates on trademark counseling, prosecution of domestic and
foreign trademark applications for registration, trademark licensing
and agreements, resolution of domestic and foreign trademark
disputes, and representation in litigation in connection with
trademark infringement.
